To Infineon and beyond!

German semiconductor company Infineon on Friday said it would lay off 3,000 employees as part of a cost-reduction program to bring the company back to profitability.
The company blamed the layoffs on “adverse foreign exchange rate development and the requirements of the reorganization of the company,” saying that headcount reduction was “inevitable.”  (PC World)

Ouch in Swedish and Japanese

Sony Ericsson struggled to break even in the second quarter amid continued weak sales of mid-to-high-end phones and increased competition, and said it would cut costs.
The company Friday said second-quarter net profit fell to EUR6 million from EUR220 million a year prior due to slowing growth in mature markets, including Europe and the U.S. (CNN)

Air Canada attendants to receive free peanuts and beverage

Air Canada has confirmed it will lay off more than 630 flight attendants this fall in Vancouver, Halifax, and Winnipeg.
The bulk of the layoffs will be in Vancouver, where 300 flight attendants will lose their jobs.  (Canada.com)

Off into the SUNset

Sun Microsystems Inc. plans to lay off 212 people in Broomfield and Louisville by the end of September, and more cuts may be coming as part of a previously announced downsizing, state and company officials said Thursday.
